What's the best Wordle starting word?

In the strictest sense, the "best" starting word is that day's answer. But if you're not aspiring to 1/6 every day, we have plenty of ideas to help you formulate a more strategic approach. Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?

Occasionally the Wordlegods will accept two different answers on a single day, defying the accepted norm of one correct solution per day. This anomaly is due to changes the New York Timesmade to Wordleafter it acquired the puzzle game earlier this year.
